Patrick is the Executive Director of the International Laser Display Association and the author of the website LaserPointerSafety.com. Since the early 1990s, he has worked on laser/aviation safety issues through the SAE G10T Laser Safety Hazards and G10OL Operational Laser committees.

He is a member of ANSI Z136.1, Z136.6, and Z136.10. Additionally, heis a member of FDA's Technical Electronic Product Radiation Safety Standards Committee (TEPRSSC), which advises the FDA on changes in laser and other radiation safety protocols. Patrick presented papers at ILSC in 1997, 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2019.
