Lighting Programming Summit: Day 1 - Battle Of The Busk

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.

This two-day seminar and workshop covers live lighting programming across multiple industry-leading consoles. Experts will provide hands-on demonstrations of their skills, methods, and insights into their programming language of choice. They will also share career-building and networking advice to those new at navigating this highly in-demand field. New programmers should be ready with their best questions and ideas and potentially be ready to show off their skills in front of their peers. Experienced designers and programmers are encouraged to participate as well and come meet the up-and-coming talent from across the industry.

Battle of the Busk:
Friday, November 18
Join some of the industry's top live programmers as they show you the secrets of their show files and let you take the controls! This workshop brings experts together from across all industries and console languages to share their knowledge on exactly how they pull off the largest live experiences in the world.

For the first hour of the course, our buskers will discuss their theories on live lighting control. They’ll walk through their show file step by step, showing how they organize their views, faders, macros, and all the tools they develop to make their busking the best in the business.

Then, for the second hour, you'll get a chance to show what you've learned by busking that showfile with a live DJ! Multiple lighting rigs and consoles from ETC, GrandMA, Chamsys, and AVO will be available working live simultaneously for you to jump in and get hands on feedback from a pro right by your side.

For the last hour, you'll be right at FOH for the main event: The Battle of the Busk! The instructors will go head to head in a (friendly) competition showing their busking skills. This event draws some of the most well known designers, programmers, and production companies as audience members, and is an awesome chance to network and discuss your newfound skills.

This class is an excellent way to end the first day at LDI, and an opportunity no programmer should miss!

Cue4Me:
Saturday, November 19
This workshop translates your programming skills into practical experience. Cue4Me places you at the lighting console next to world class programmers looking to share their invaluable experience in direct hands-on training.

Join top names in the industry, such as Benny Kirkham (Elton John, Spongebob on Broadway) and Tiffany Keys(The Voice, SavageXFenty), as they take you through multiple real world scenarios with practical instruction on how they manage to put together such stunning shows around the world. Our work in the field as designers and programmers involves all kinds of chaos, and these professionals will show you how to set up a showfile to best handle it.

Using the same multiple lighting rigs and consoles from the Battle of the Busk, participants will have the opportunity to work live with a designer: taking direction, building looks, and openly sharing strategies and methods for working in the toughest situation. Experts from theatre, film, and live music will all be present to offer their unique perspectives on programming workflow and philosophy.

Whether you choose to get in the hot seat with the designer or just observe and participate in the conversation, this session offers insights unlike anything you might receive in a typical programming course. This workshop provides key perspective into the working relationships shared out in the field, as well as technical tricks and tips from the best to help develop your own programming skills. After the session has ended, attendees are invited to stay and continue their shared education on the consoles of their choice, network with the designers and programmers who participated, and have fun with the now free-to-use lighting rig until LDI doors close.
